MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Aug. 31, 2015) – Pharmacy Times, a monthly trade journal ranked as the top publication among retail pharmacists, recently named Manatee County Clinical Pharmacist Chris Williams the Specialty Pharmacist of the Year.

The industry publication announced the award earlier this month during the Next-Generation Pharmacist Awards which recognizes pharmacists, technicians, students and industry advocates who are defining the future of pharmacy.

Williams received the Specialty Pharmacist Award which is presented each year to “a pharmacist whose primary focus is to provide specialty services and disease management for patients with complex or rare diseases who are being treated with high-touch, high-cost specialty medications.”

Williams is the full time clinical pharmacist for Manatee’s award-winning “YourChoice” Health Plan. He helps employees and their dependents with medication-related issues, including side effects, drug interactions, generic options, proper drug utilization and patient education.

“In 2010 Chris won the Rising Star award from this group as well,” said Manatee County Health Benefits Manager Kim Stroud. “We are so proud of Chris and what he does for our members and the County taxpayers.  His ongoing efforts to assist our plan members in ensuring the right medication is available to the patient and all cost-saving measures are implemented to save the County has earned him this reward.”
