The county’s IT team over the past month collected 3,773 pounds of food (see attached photos) for the Food Bank of Manatee as part of the White Out Summer Hunger campaign. IT employees divided into teams and collected as many non-perishable food items and canned goods as possible. IT’s winning team collected seven full barrels of food or nearly 1,700 pounds as part of the effort.

Food Bank Director Cindy Sloan said IT’s contribution will go a long way to help hungry children this summer.

“We’re at that summer slowdown with food coming in and there’s lots of empty space on the shelves,” Sloan said. “For that group of people contribute nearly 4,000 pounds of food is a real blessing. It’s going to make a big difference during the slow summer months.”

IT Director Paul Alexander and his management team held a small pizza party for the department as a show of appreciation on Friday. Last week he thanked the 60-plus people who contributed to the effort. He gave special thanks to Susan Kulbersh and Lynn Pierce who organized the competition.

“I am so pleased with what we have accomplished here as a team,” ITS Director Paul Alexander told his employees Thursday. “I hope you realize the impact that this will have on hungry children. What a testimony to your commitment to community service.”
