MANATEE COUNTY, FL (May 5, 2015) – Manatee County’s Central Library will reopen to the public on Monday, May 11 following a three month renovation project. Doors will open at 10 a.m. Monday morning. In addition to the renovations, the library, 1301 Barcarrotta Boulevard, is also now the first county facility connected to the County’s new downtown chiller plant which will bring significant long-term energy savings to buildings throughout downtown Bradenton. A new fire alarm system, ceiling and flooring upgrades were included. Library Services Manager Ava Ehde said patrons will be pleased with a host of renovations at the library.

“We’ve made cosmetic improvements to the exterior of the building, we’ve added coffee bar-style charging stations throughout the facility and we have a new creative lab for patrons that will feature digital equipment for creating audio visual productions,” Ehde said. “We have a new business incubator which is a room for startups and businesses to meet and collaborate. There’s also a new break room/demonstration kitchen, and five new study rooms; and a brand new teen area that features high top tables and allows a collaborative work area.”

A new countywide operating system that will improve the way all patrons access library materials is scheduled for availability in fall. It’s being paid for largely through $100,000 in proceeds from the January Stephen King fundraiser sponsored by the Manatee Library Foundation. Patrons will see enhanced use of the online services, catalog and new community connection features.

Central Library will host the second ever “Recycled Dreams” fashion show on Sat., May 16 at 1 p.m. Last year teens from around the area participated, creating original clothing from recycled materials. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries. The fashion show is sponsored by the six Friends of the Library groups of the Library System. It is free and open to the public and serves as another opportunity for patrons to experience the renovations.
