Jiggs Landing will close for upgrades on Jan. 19

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Jan. 7, 2015) –Jiggs Landing park and boat ramp will be closed for up to six months as crews repair the boat launch beginning Jan. 19.

The park and ramp, located at 6106 63rd St. E., will be closed while crews expand the boat dock associated with the boat ramp, correct erosion issues undermining the launch ramp and resurface the parking lot with concrete. The resurfacing will better treat storm water runoff, enhancing water quality protection of Evers Reservoir, the City of Bradenton’s drinking water supply. Because of the extent of the work, the entire facility will be closed throughout the project.

“The upgrades will increase the functionality of the facility and reduce yearly maintenance while improving storm water treatment,” said Alan LaiHipp, Environmental Program Manager with Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources. “We don’t expect the work to last the entire six months and we will have the park reopened as soon as everything is complete.”
The boat dock expansion will include a floating section to ensure that boaters can access the dock during the very low water levels which occasionally occur in the reservoir.
During the closure, boaters seeking freshwater access may use Lake Manatee State Park at 20007 State Road 64. A full list of Manatee County’s public boat launches can be found on the Parks and Natural Resources website.
